“Travel Through Our Country’s Belts”

Above is my planned route. When thinking about my trip, I had a couple goals for the travel. First, I wanted to focus my travel on the countries “belts”: the Sun Belt and the Rust Belt. I see these regions as crucial for understanding our country, as places that would teach me a lot about our culture and citizens. Second, I knew I wanted to go to places I’ve never been. After all, I won’t have many opportunities to travel the rest of my life.

As for specifics, it was important that I find a balance of places. I am stopping in some of America’s great cities such as Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, and Chicago. I am also going to a Native American Reservation, the town of Mercersburg, PA and the military base in Enterprise, Alabama. My project aside, I know that these diverse places will introduce me to the range of amazing people who make America the country that it is.
